Explorers are a go-getting group of young people aged 14 to 18. Together, they make up the fourth section of the Scouts. You can be an Explorer, an Explorer Young Leader, or both – the choice is yours! We welcome interest from Young People wishing to take on voluntary leadership roles which will support your Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

Week in and week out, Explorers gather in groups called Units to try new things, make new friends and conquer the small task of changing the world. Meanwhile, Explorer Young Leaders play an active leadership role in younger sections, bringing energy, fun and enthusiasm to every meeting and event.

Being an Explorer is all about discovering the world on your own terms and making the most of what you have, wherever and whoever you are. It is at this point, Explorers take the reins with support from adults to make it happen. You’ll have the freedom to choose what you’d like to do, working together as a Unit, not forgetting the opportunities for wider engagement within the District, County and Nationwide Explorer population and communities.

Your adventures may take you further afield, and you might find yourself saying “Yes” more often than “No” as your appetite for challenge increases. Alongside your new friends, you’ll master the skills that will make you feel stronger and happier in the long run and try things you’d never get the chance to do at home or at school.
