Section Reports

The reports below cover some of the latest activity within the sections of the group.

Beavers

The Beavers Scouts have been really busy helping the cubs and scouts to maintain the garden at the scout hut.

We have been busy planting wild flower seeds in the wild garden and potting up sunflower seeds, ready to plant in the garden when the weather is warmer. We also made a bog and bug garden and discovered an interesting new friend, after finding a newt in the garden. Whilst making a home for him we named him Issac (Newt on).

We have been on a night hike, finishing up at the chip shop. We’ve made pancakes and Mothers day gifts, Easter cards and chocolate Easter nests.

This year the Beavers Scouts are celebrating their 25th Anniversary and Beavers from all over the District came together at the West Midland Safari park for a huge birthday bash.

Cubs

An exciting Spring programme for the Cub Scouts began with a visit to Norton Parish Hall to see the pantomime, Jack and the Three Musketeers. After many shouts of “He’s behind you!” there were a few quiet Cubs afterwards!

Preparation for the District Quiz on 29th January must have been worth it since our team of Cubs came a very satisfactory second. Well done team!

An international flavour was introduced on a number of Wednesday Meetings with activities on Chinese New Year, Viva Italia and St David’s Day to name a few. If that wasn’t enough, we had a very interesting visit from two local Prison Officers who gave a presentation on life in a prison and even managed to dress up one of the Cubs in their riot gear!!!

Finally, a Cubs Campfire Camp at Crown East was a great success with learning how to build fires and shelters, backwoods cooking and games. An exhausting but very enjoyable weekend!

Scouts

So far 2011 has been jam packed for our Scout troop!  We have had a go at making our own Lego stop motion animations, looked at how to save a life for our emergency aid badge, we learnt how to make fires and cook over them and had a great climbing session at Vertical Limit.  To top it all off we used our newly learnt cooking skills and competed in a back woods cooking competition called the Brian and Josie Poole Shield and came a very close second!

In the term ahead we still have loads to look forward to.  We have a maintenance day planned at our scout hut where we will be working on our garden.  We will be building a new vegetable plot and planting a crop ready for the summer term.  We have a patrol camp at the end of the term where the scouts get to have a go at running their own campsite and have a go at zip wire.

The programme for the upcoming spring term is available from the Programmes page.
